Work set to begin on commuter car park mid-2023
A car park upgrade at Sunbury station, which provides a link to the local shopping area for many residents across Hume City, including Broadmeadows, is set to improve safety, minimise travel times and make it easier for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists moving within the area.
Mayor Joseph Hawaeil said the upgrade, which will provide extra car parking spaces, will not only simplify the way residents access the area, but also help limit congestion. He added:
The contract to deliver 300 new parking spaces for commuters as well as over 100 spaces for traders and shoppers across all four levels was awarded to locally based Kane Constructions. Features of the multi-deck development will include parking for motorists with disabilities, together with improved lighting and better signage, prepared by professional printing services, within the entire precinct.
The upgrade to the car park is set to benefit all users including train commuters, while also alleviating the need for local shop tenants, shoppers and train travellers to park in neighbouring streets. It will also improve access to Sunbury's public transport network. With development of the design underway, works are scheduled to begin on the new multi-storey Sunbury Station car park within six months.
