Volunteering in the spotlight in Broadmeadows

Broadmeadows residents interested in volunteering in their local community can find out more at a special event this month.

The Hume Volunteer Expo will see more than 50 exhibitors offering information about several different types of volunteering experiences. Around 200 opportunities for volunteering will be on offer at the event.

Groups taking part include local government organisations, charities, environmental groups, and volunteers working in the Hume community itself. Vision Australia, the Melbourne City Mission, and the Hume Men's Shed will be among those exhibiting.

Many of the organisations will have used brochure printers to help create information packs that expo-goers can take away with them before they make a final decision to sign up.

As well as finding out about the organisations’ general work, visitors will be able to hear from volunteers talking about their personal experiences.

There will also be sessions on writing resumes and job applications, information about courses run by the University of the Third Age, and a talk on how to support teenagers with their academic achievements and personal goals.

Everyone who attends the event and completes an evaluation form will also go into a draw to win a Samsung tablet.

The Hume Volunteer Expo takes place on Wednesday, April 29th from 11am to 4pm at the Global Learning Centre in Broadmeadows. Entry is free. For a full programme, visit the Hume City Council website.
