Residents of Broadmeadows can look forward to an upgrade for their train station in the near future, according to a report published by the northern suburbs councils.
Rated by the RACV as the fifth worst train station in its On Track Survey, Broadmeadows has received $1 million in funding from the Victorian Government for cosmetic upgrades. This Forms one part of numerous works previously agreed upon for the area.
The Northern Horizons 2020 report predicts a population growth of 1.5 million people in the north by the year 2036, an increase of almost 500,000 people, and the infrastructure needed to keep pace with this growth is extensive.
Hume City Council hopes to see the station act as a multi-purpose interchange for trains, taxis, buses, cyclists, vehicles and pedestrians and to provide a better connection between the eastern and western sides of Broadmeadows through an overhead concourse. These upgrades are welcomed but ultimately, a complete redevelopment is needed as the station continues to drop in the rankings.
Improving the station precinct is important to the local community as poor accessibility and an outdated facility impacts negatively on people’s perception of Broadmeadows as a whole.
Other construction projects in the pipeline for the northern suburbs is the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road and extending rail services out to Wollert. Graphic design is often used in the creation of proposals for developments like this.
Jana Taylor, a Hume councillor, says that the report highlights the need for greater funding in the north and she assures locals that Hume City Council will continue to advocate for these services until they are delivered.Get a Free Quote for Forms
