The Alanah and Madeline Foundation is named after two children who died at Port Arthur, Tasmania in 1996. The mission of the foundation is to protect children from violence and to assure that:
“every child will live in a safe and supportive environment.”
The foundation recently released the eSmart system which is designed to keep children safe online and to help fight against bullying. This system was sent out to 159 schools in 2010 and is now available to all schools here in Australia and state and disadvantaged schools receive the eSmart system for free.
Local brochure printers have provided the program with literature describing eSmart; there are separate Brochures for parents and for school. The event in Broadmeadows and the media attention, will most likely build up more interest in the system.
Bullying has been in the news a lot lately with children being bullied so much that they have taken their own lives. Any program that can help to combat this scourge must be encouraged; the eSmart system has been received very well and:
“96 per cent of pilot schools would recommend eSmart to other schools.”
