Primary school to benefit from playground giveaway
The Good Samaritan Primary School will soon have its own playground following an initiative by Westfield Airport West.
The school, which caters for pupils from Broadmeadows and throughout the City of Hume, and hosts one of the largest percentages of students with a refugee background, successfully applied for the secondhand playground equipment.
Westfield Airport West centre manager Craig Tapping said the opportunity arose after the centre’s playground, which has often featured on promotional brochures advertising the centre, was replaced by an updated version.
He said the original playground equipment, including a climbing tower, tunnel slide and fencing, was dismantled, giving rise to the idea to give it away to a deserving kindergarten, school or daycare service in the local area.
Applications were called and the Roxburgh Park School, located in Almands Avenue, was selected as a worthy recipient for the play equipment, he said.
Tapping said the play space, which will be delivered and installed by Westfield later in the year, will add to the facilities available at the school that caters for an estimated 500 families. He sees the gesture as an ideal chance to give something back to the local community and shoppers who frequent the centre’s stores.
Some students who have visited Westfield Airport West with their families may already be familiar with the equipment.
