New vertical garden beds to boost shopping experience
Shopping in Broadmeadows, Victoria is about to gain a new attraction with the mounting of 14 vertical gardens.
Hume City Council Mayor Helen Patsikatheodorou said the display was set to reinvigorate one of the suburb’s most popular shopping strips on Widford Street, drawing attention to its vivid colour.
She believes flowers growing in the garden beds will not only appeal to shoppers, but also local traders.
The vertical structures, she added, will host an array of greenery and flowers, like many that have appeared in promotional brochures and holiday cards as part of full colour printing promotional campaigns.
The Mayor said such bursts of colour continually attracted the eye, and she was confident the thriving plans set all in a row will be a welcome fixture by all.
An official opening scheduled for June 21 will provide an opportunity for members of the public to celebrate the features arrival by planting a succulent.
Local environment group HumeUs has partnered Hume Council in the project, which is part of its Together 3047 initiative, which focuses on supporting those living across the suburbs of Jacana, Dallas and Broadmeadows, according to the Mayor.
She said Together 3047 aims to improve the look of public spaces and streets. It is also supported by organisations, businesses, schools and residents throughout the local community.
