New cricket hub on way for Hume community
Cricket enthusiasts in Broadmeadows and across Hume City are set to welcome the establishment of a new cricket hub for the community.
To be located at Greenvale, the project is being made possible by a contribution from the Victorian Government of $1.5 million, together with the local council investment of $5.2m.
The facility is to include an indoor six-lane training centre focusing on cricket, as well as a pavilion and sports field.
In a statement, Mayor of Hume City Carly Moore said the sport is extremely popular in the area, and the establishment of such a high-quality and modern facility is sure to see it grow further. She added:
Moore said that the Greenvale Kangaroos Cricket Club had several women's teams, the top one of which had played so well it would now be competing at shield level. Having the purpose-built facility will, it is hoped, encourage participation by even more girls and women.
Flyer printing campaigns have often helped to boost memberships at sporting organisations such as the cricket clubs.
The new cricket hub, which will be open to all abilities and age groups, is aimed at involving more people and providing a venue for everything from cricket camps, tournaments and community programmes to supporting junior talent. Regional staff from Cricket Victoria will also be based at the hub.

“This Council-owned indoor training centre will make lane hire more affordable and more accessible to clubs in the region.”
