New Broadmeadows coworking space nears completion
Local start-ups headed by migrants and refugees will be able to access support services through a new programme to be offered by Hume City Council.
The StartNorth programme will be delivered by the council’s not-for-profit, education and co-working space group, ygap and specialises in giving support to migrants and refugees seeking to begin a business as well as other fledgling local business start-ups in the area.
Mayor for Hume, Councillor Carly Moore said that ygap has considerable experience in delivering over 50 similar accelerator programmes and has supported another 500 preliminary businesses.
The initiative will provide local ventures the opportunity to become a member of a coworking space, and aims to deliver participants the necessary knowledge, support and experience that they may need, in order for their ventures to succeed.
Located in the town hall in Broadmeadows, the space is architecturally designed for maximum productivity and includes printing services, fast internet connection as well as education and mentoring services. Members can also access social and business events and work with a community of people who are like-minded.
Funding for the initiative has been provided by LaunchVic’s Round X grant program, which supports start-up businesses and investors in Victoria. Hume City has 210,000 residents, with one third of the population being first generation migrants.
The coworking space will open on 28th October.
