Local students are testing their skills in a fundraising challenge
A group of students from Broadmeadows is raising funds to help people with disabilities in the local area.
The students are all studying at the Kangan Institute's Broadmeadows campus and are working towards a Diploma of Events. They are organising the fundraising event for one part of their course.
To add to the challenge, the group started with no budget. It has been holding a number of small events, such as a sausage sizzle at the campus and a spring morning tea to build up enough funds to stage its big fundraising event later this month.
That event will be a Latin Night, held at the Copacabana International in nearby Fitzroy. The evening will feature a DJ and live band, floor shows, and a Brazilian barbecue buffet. There will also be free dance lessons on offer to anyone who wants to brush up their moves on the dance floor.
The money raised from the Latin Night will be used to host a fun day in November for members of Broadmeadows Disability Services. The organisation helps people with intellectual disabilities to learn new skills and contribute to their local community.
Poster printing and flyer printing are good ways to promote events such as fundraising nights locally and can be adapted to suit different budgets.
The Latin Night takes place this Friday, October 19. There are a limited number of pre-paid tickets at a reduced price available before the event and tickets will also be on sale on the door.
