Hume libraries set for reading frenzy
Youngsters from Broadmeadows and around the Hume City are being urged to keep up their reading skills during the school holidays, with prizes on offer from the city council for avid bookworms.
The Hume City Council launched its Summer Reading Club in the past few weeks with a series of parties at its libraries and is challenging young residents to top last year’s total of 15,700 books read in two months.
The scheme is open to readers aged up to 17-years-old and runs from now until the end of January. This year’s theme is Lost Worlds and is based on stories of mythical places, quests, and fantasy worlds.
Anyone wanting to take part needs to complete reading records during the period to show how many books they have read, and can enter the prize draw each time they have finished 10 books.
Young readers can download and print their own reading records from the Hume Libraries website, but printing services have also been used to create hard copies available at all the city’s libraries, including The Age Library in Broadmeadows.
Everyone who enters the draw stands to win prizes including Samsung tablets, board games, book vouchers and Lego, with prizes being drawn in three age categories.
For more information about the scheme, visit the Hume Libraries website. Reading records need to be returned by Sunday, January 31.
