What's Happening in Broadmeadows, VIC…

Festival has everything from choirs to classic rock

Fans of all genres of music will find something to entertain them during the Hume Festival of Music this month.

The festival gets underway today, September 13, and runs until Sunday, September 23, with a host of events around the city, including classic rock, Celtic bands and an Australian bush dance.

Fans of pop singer Daryl Braithwaite should head to the Highgate Recreation Reserve in Cragieburn on the festival’s last day to enjoy a free two-hour outdoor performance by Braithwaite and his six-piece band. Braithwaite enjoyed success in the 1970s as the lead singer of Sherbet, topping the charts with songs like ‘Summer Love’, before embarking on a solo career. As a solo artist, he continued to find fame, including the hit ‘The Horses’, which was number one in Australia for three weeks.

Fans who want to show their support for Braithwaite could try banner printing as a way of getting their message across at the event.

The festival will also feature 80s sensation Grace Knight, who sang with the indie-pop group Eurogliders and has since forged a successful career as a jazz singer and musician.

Broadmeadows residents have plenty to enjoy on their doorstep, with a range of cultural musical events including Bhutanese music, a Turkish pianist and vocalist, and an Australian bush dance group.

The festival starts with the launch of an exhibition celebrating the Sunbury Pop Festival, which was held in the 1970s and attracted more than 40,000 people to see local and international acts.
