Doors open on new women's prevention and recovery centre
The recent opening of the $8.4 million North-West Women's Prevention and Recovery Care (WPARC) centre near Broadmeadows has brought with it accessible facilities to support mental health.
Providing care for women who require mental health care in the short-term, the new facility will be able to cater for up to 150 women annually. The clinical care will be available 24 hours at the facility, which hosts 12 beds, living and dining areas, a communal kitchen and space for recreational and leisure activities.
The centre marks a dual `first' in being the first of its kind to be built in the western suburbs and also the State's first PARC where both women and their kids can stay together.
St Albans Member Natalie Suleyman said the new centre is providing a valuable service, adding:
Flyer printing campaigns throughout the medical industry have often helped to alert professionals to new facilities such as WPARC that are available for patients.
NorthWestern Mental Health Service will operate the new centre, which is located close to the Sunshine Hospital. It is among 25 similar centres across the state and is part of a $325.7m investment by the Victorian Government in mental health to help address a rising demand for such services.
