Nominees of the 2015 City of Hume Teachers’ Scholarships have been finalised.
Teachers from throughout the City of Hume, including Broadmeadows, Victoria will be vying for one of five $4,000 scholarships aimed at furthering their professional development.
A Hume City Council spokesperson said the initiative was first introduced in 2005 to reward and recognise innovative and inspiring teachers working in the area.
He said the aim of the programme was to provide educators throughout Hume with the necessary tools to gain training about new approaches, ideas and models that could be put to optimum use in their everyday role which encompasses skill development, knowledge and learning in the educational arena.
The spokesperson said the Teachers’ Scholarships was something for which the entire community could benefit.
Local educators this year have been nominated in five categories which include Primary School/Early Years Educator, Secondary School Teacher, Open Category Educator, Graduate Teacher and Outstanding Team.
Each category will also award $500 to two runners-up.
In addition an overall winner will be selected and presented with The Honourable John Cain Achievement Award for vision, dedication and outstanding innovation. It is valued at $1,000.
Former Victorian premier John Cain has supported the Teachers’ Scholarship initiative for a long time.
Winners of the 2015 City of Hume Teachers’ Scholarships will be announced in November and it is expected flyer printing and individual school websites will be used to convey results to students and members of the community.
