Broadmeadows residents and hounds to enjoy new dog park
A new park for dogs that allows pooches to run freely off-lead has opened recently in Broadmeadows.
The John Ilhan Memorial Reserve Park for dogs is surrounded by a 1.2 metre perimetre fence and features a separately fenced area which is self-contained for smaller dogs.
Facilities at the park include a bridge and tunnel, a wave pole as well as hurdles that can be used to train dogs and increase their agility. Other areas included in the park have been designed especially for sit and stay training. Graphic design can be used to identify particular boundaries within shared community areas.
City of Hume mayor, Carly Moore said that the dog park provided a safe and secure environment where owners and their dogs can come for regular exercise. Moore further commented that exercise is important for the health and well-being of dogs and can help with problem behaviours such as digging or barking as well as helping to combat boredom.
Hume City Council is planning on creating further dog parks in their municipality after having received positive feedback on their popularity.
Councillor Moore also said that initially dogs must be restrained on a leash until they can obey voice commands and that all dogs are required to wear a collar and a current registration tag. Owners are advised that their dogs must be supervised at all times.
