Broadmeadows Kmart to open in time for Christmas
Broadmeadows Shopping Centre patrons will soon welcome the opening of a new store.
The October closure of the Target store is making way for the establishment of Kmart, which is set to open before Christmas this year.
Wesfarmers’ department stores division Chief Executive, Guy Russo, said the decision to introduce Kmart into the centre followed a review of the company’s property portfolio.
He said it was believed the business in Broadmeadows would be more successful trading as Kmart.
Wesfarmers, he added, already provided North Melbourne shoppers with Target stores at Epping, Airport West and Craigieburn and all produced regular sales catalogues to keep shoppers informed of weekly specials.
Mr. Guy said lengthy and careful market analysis and research had been undertaken before the decision to replace Target with Kmart was finalised.
He described the outcome as the best commercial decision possible for the brand, claiming the move to introduce Kmart will drive higher profit, sales and customer traffic.
While the logo design on the store will change, Mr. Guy said there will no job losses with Target staff being retrained to fill positions at the Broadmeadows Shopping Centre’s new Kmart or, alternatively offered an opportunity to transfer to one of the company’s other Target stores.
The new Kmart store will as always, he said, provide a wonderful array of products to meet a wide range of needs.
Mr. Guy said he is looking forward to the new Kmart opening in time for the holiday season.
