The town hall of Broadmeadows recently became a temporary work of art.
Robbie Rowlands, the artist responsible for the transformation, made the floor of the building into a modern sculpture. The hall is about half a century old and it is undergoing redevelopment at the moment.
Mr Rowlands created something called Crossing the Floor (this hall breathes). The project as a whole is benefiting from a partnership approach. In practice, this has meant the involvement of a variety of individuals and organisations. The participating bodies so far have included Kerstin Thompson Architects, Hume Council and the Centre for Art Society and Transformation of RMIT.
Rowlands revealed that his work was about celebrating the history of the hall. However, he confirmed that his vision also related to the landscape external to the building. Further, he underlined his commitment to the social power of place.
The redevelopment initiative will cost over $30 million in the end. The work in question is due to be completed before the end of the decade. Visitors to the building shall be given a chance to record their town hall memories. The recordings will be utilised as the basis for an exhibition. Postcards are often used to showcase art and support exhibitions.
The plan is that this show will take place during the course of 2019. Get a Free Quote for Postcards
