Annual event to celebrate diversity in Broadmeadows
The residents of Broadmeadows will have the chance to learn more about a number of cultures when the city’s annual Fiesta takes place next month.
The Fiesta recognises the fact that many different nations are represented in the area and will include entertainment from some of the community’s cultural groups. Among those performing on the main stage will be Bollywood dancers and African drummers.
Children can wear themselves out on the bouncy castle and take part in the free activities, while adults can browse the market stalls and learn a little more about the area’s history.
Budding racing drivers will get to enjoy the global billy cart race that takes place in the early afternoon. Participants also have the chance to build their own carts, each of which will be decorated to represent a country, before racing them along a predetermined course. Banner printing would be a great way for spectators to show their support for a particular entrant.
This year, the White Ribbon five-kilometre fun run will also be held as part of the Fiesta. People are encouraged to either run or walk the picturesque course, which starts and ends in Jacana Reserve and follows the Moonee Ponds Creek. The event is designed to raise awareness about domestic violence, while generating money for Berry Street, a charity that helps families who have suffered from domestic violence.
The Fiesta takes place on Sunday November 10 at the Civic Plaza in Pascoe Vale Road. The fun starts at midday and comes to an end at 5:00pm. For more information, visit the Hume City Council website.
