The Broadmeadows Street Festival for 2019 gets underway again this year in April.
This popular event is set to explode in a colourful kaleidoscope of traditional dancing and music, street foods, cooking demonstrations, cultural exhibitions, handicrafts and street entertainment.
With over 4,500 people attending last year’s festival, this multicultural extravaganza has something for everyone. Free activities for families, including a car show, carnival rides and market stalls, are also on offer.
Broadmeadows in the City of Hume is home, according the 2016 Census of Population, to people from Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, Pakistan and India, with only 43.5% of people living in the area born in Australia. This event showcases the diverse array of cultural mix that the area holds.
To help encourage local and community groups to participate in this and other live events, Hume City Council is giving $25,000 in grants. As well as financial assistance, Council will also provide templates to be used for participating groups’ Promotional Products. In doing so, Council seeks to make provision for equal opportunity for those otherwise unable to be involved.
The festival will be run from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM on the afternoon of Sunday, April 7, concluding with fireworks. It will be held in Tanderrum Way, near the corner of Pearcedale Parade, and is a no smoking and alcohol-free event.
