Club President, Christine Cardwell told Natalie White of the Port Phillip Leader that the club is determined to build an environmentally friendly clubhouse which is also functional and sustainable. They have asked architecture firm Jackson Clement Burrows to design the building.
Cardwell described the building of the clubhouse as a turning point for the club, saying:
"We look like a tired unit on the beach now, but a new clubhouse will increase our membership and the programs we can offer.”
Cardwell went on to tell the Port Phillip Leader that crowds on the beach can reach 5,000 on a hot day.
The club has been engaged in fundraising for over 10 years and, on November 24, the club hosted the launch of its ‘Get on Board’ fundraising drive. The drive is aimed at getting the community involved in raising further funds for the building. There is a donation form on the club’s website which anyone interested in helping the campaign could download and fill in, or use for flyer printing to help get the word out. The front page of the form would also make fine material for poster printing.
