Womens State of Origin match to be hosted in Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast Stadium at Bokarina, near Maroochydore, will host a Women’s State of Origin contest in 2020.

The match was confirmed by the National Rugby League, Sunshine Coast Regional Council and the Queensland Government.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson stated that securing the match in addition to NRL games featuring the Cronulla Sharks and South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2020 reinforced the area’s standing and reputation for drawing elite competition events and sporting teams.

He said the event, which will be promoted on the events calendar of It’s Live! in Queensland, will give locals an opportunity to see the Queensland Maroons playing live as well as provide a showcase for women in elite sports on the Sunshine Coast, adding:

“It is only fitting that the Women’s State of Origin – the NRL’s leading women’s sport event - is played on the Sunshine Coast, given our region is also home to Australia’s most successful start-up, national competition sporting team in the Sunshine Coast Lightning.”

Events such as this are often the subject of marketing campaigns featuring banner printing. The NRL’s Graham Annesley explained the event on the Sunshine Coast was timed perfectly and would see a significant injection of money and visitors into the region.

Footy fans travelling to the Sunshine Coast for the match in June 2020 are urged to plan ahead and to ensure flights and accommodation are booked early.
