Rock legend to be honoured in Maroochydore

Fans of classic rock music in Maroochydore may be interested to hear an artist pay tribute to legendary singer Janis Joplin.

Janis Joplin was born in Texas in 1943. A self-confessed misfit during school, she enjoyed painting, folk music and beat poetry. She loved gospel, soul, blues, country and rock, and was known for her stellar live performances that were often described as flamboyant, confident and magnetic.

Although Joplin passed away tragically aged 27, her mark on the rock world cannot be under-estimated. With a voice that critics and fans named powerful, raspy and explosive, she left a huge legacy.

Joplin was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and was in the running for a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.

Janice Smithers has received much praise for her portrayal of Joplin. Jimmy Budgen, the Director of the Mitchell Creek Rock and Blues Festival, commented that:
“Nobody does Janis like Janice.”

The songs on the evening will be interspersed with the story of Joplin’s life, with multimedia support. Psychedelic advertising Posters as befitting the era of Joplin may be produced at local Print shops.

The Janis 2 Course Dinner and Tribute Show will be taking place on Saturday, May 4 at 6pm. The venue is the Maroochy RSL Events Centre, which can be found at105 Memorial Avenue, Maroochydore. Tickets cost $70.
