Residents and visitors are being invited to a special, free People’s Day to celebrate the opening of Stage 1 of the new City Centre site in Maroochydore.
A programme of free events, entertainment and education has been put together for the occasion.
According to John Knaggs, SunCentral CEO, the day will give everyone an opportunity to celebrate, engage with and explore the city centre, which will be open to cyclists and pedestrians to enjoy a range of events and activities from 11am and into the evening.
The future City Hall site of Sunshine Coast Council, including the creative pop-up precinct called the MET and a newly built part of First Avenue, will be the focus of activities throughout the day.
Interactive displays and smart city technology will also be on show to highlight the project’s innovative infrastructure.
Local acts to be featured in evening performances will include Katie Noon and a folk-jazz ensemble, Gubbi Gubbi Dance Troupe, Andrea Kirwin, Lizzie O’Keefe, Lindsay Pollak and Louise King. Flyer printing has often been employed to spread the word about free public events such as the City Centre Stage 1 opening.
The Maroochydore City Centre project has been planned to take up to 20 years to finalise with the Open Day on August 10 being held to celebrate the opening of Stage 1.
Knagg said the Sunshine Coast Council-owned enterprise SunCentral Maroochydore has overseen the activation, delivery and design of the city centre.
