Mooloolaba Christmas Boat parade secures funding

The much loved Mooloolaba Christmas Boat parade will be around for another four years thanks to funding from the council.

James Thorogood, the organiser of the event has stated that the council will pump $5000 AUD into the parade on an annual basis. This funding will continue for four years.

Participants in the event were concerned that it was going to be canceled due to a message that was posted on the Seafood Cruise website. The message informed web surfers that the event was canceled due to lack of funding and support from both the community and the council. However, thanks to the Sunshine Coast council this is no longer the case.

While the council funding is good news for the short term, the event will need sponsors and marketing initiatives if it is to survive longer than four years. Sponsors will only be interested in funding the event if there are large amount of visitors to showcase their brand to. This is where marketing and advertising will come in. As Mooloolaba is a small resort town on the Sunshine Coast, it is unlikely that organisers will launch an expensive marketing campaign. The event may be promoted online and by using traditional low-cost methods of marketing such as flyer printing and distribution. Other promotional material such as Banners and Posters may also need to be produced.

In 2010, 40 boats participated in this event. Participants, sponsors and spectators hope that the parade is successful as the money raised will go to Nambour General Hospital's children's ward.
