Maroochydore kicking goals with sports upgrade

The Multi Sports Complex at Maroochydore is celebrating the completion of a $3.1 million upgrade.

Netball and AFL players on the Sunshine Coast now have access to new state-of-the-art facilities, which include a two-level building complete with administration offices, public amenities, unisex umpire and player amenities and change rooms, and medical and first aid rooms.

An upgrade to the long established netball building was also undertaken and featured the addition of a new upper level area for administration and training. Another room, formerly used for storage, was also converted into a space for parents and includes a change table for babies and a microwave.

The provision of high quality facilities for sports enthusiasts on the Sunshine Coast is a priority of Council, according to Mayor Mark Jamieson who said it encouraged residents to be active and benefit from being involved in sport including the social aspect.

Councillor Ted Hungerford stated that the upgrade would help draw more major sporting events to the area, adding:

“Not only does it provide fantastic health and social benefits, but we understand that sport and recreation contributes approximately $442 million per year to the local economy. Sports related tourism is one of the key drivers of the region’s economy and investing in the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex helps attract a higher number of top calibre events.”

Banner printing is often conducted to advertise such events as they happen.
