Maroochydore and other business communities on the Sunshine Coast are starting to benefit from a new broadband cable, the need for which arose from an unlikely source.
Due to the boom of the esports industry during the COVID-19 crisis, an increased need for stable, high-volume internet networks arose. The development of the Sunshine Coast International Broadband Submarine Cable has resulted in commercial companies in the esports field basing themselves on the Sunshine Coast. The cable allows servers to access a high-speed link to the Asia Pacific region, including the west coast of the USA, and reach 1.5 billion gamers.
The Sunshine Coast Submarine Broadband Network is operating out of the landing station located in Maroochydore’s city centre. The link, which offers the swiftest fibre-data connection to Asia from eastern Australia, has attracted interest from various sectors and has resulted in a range of commercial and residential building projects starting on the Sunshine Coast.
Maroochydore's first commercial building is already 100% leased. The Sunshine Council is actively supporting investment in the region by establishing an investment and trade team to help businesses looking for opportunities. Brochure printing can be useful to attract business to new commercial developments like this.
With a landing station for the broadband network located in the CBD, the cable is set to greatly boost Maroochydore’s business community.
