Improved stadium for Maroochydore sports clubs

Basketball teams around Maroochydore are set to get new facilities, with the Sunshine Coast Council announcing its support for an upgrade to a local stadium.

The Maroochydore Eagles Basketball Association runs the stadium at Buderim, and currently has one court at its disposal.

The association has proposed an expansion to develop a multiuse indoor stadium, and now the Council has agreed to extra funding to help the project, which will include two new courts to complement the existing facilities.

The Council has already pledged money from its budget to the redevelopment, but it now it has also agreed to add another $100,000 from its Division Six contributions. The State Government is also contributing towards the budget from its Get Paying Plus scheme, which helps to develop facilities to increase participation in local sports clubs.

A group will be formed by the council to oversee the project, and two members of the Basketball Association will be part of the panel to ensure the organisation’s ideas are included. The Association could also use printing services to create updates for their members and get feedback as the redevelopment takes place.

The council will now complete surveys and tests before gaining planning approvals, and it is hoped that a design contractor will be engaged by the end of the year. The project is due to be finalised by December 2016.
