Huge boost for Sunshine Coast retail

Retail confidence is rising on the Sunshine Coast, with a $45 million development in Maroochydore having opened this month.

Located at 53-91 Dalton Drive in Maroochydore’s city centre, the new precinct was officially opened on February 10th by former Olympic gold medallist Gian Rooney. The 11,000-square metre retail centre boasts major retailers Anaconda, Harris Scarfe and Spotlight.

The three major retailers are amongst the most popular in Australia. Harris Scarfe employs over 2,000 staff in Australia, selling clothing and homewares. Anaconda caters for the lifestyle market, with the most extensive range of outdoor and adventure products available in one store. Family-owned Spotlight is a much-loved brand in Australia, supplying fabrics, sewing materials, homeware and more.

The Spotlight store measures 6,000 square metres, which is the largest Spotlight store worldwide. The store opened on February 16th, with council and centre representatives and builders McNab Builders and Walker Corporation in attendance. Senior Spotlight executives were also present to officially open the store. Organisers of official openings such as this can use banner printing for advertising events and directing visitors.

Speaking to Sunshine Coast News, the Executive Deputy Chairman of the Spotlight Group, Zac Fried, highlighted the boom in families moving into the region, which was driving the economic recovery from Covid-19. The relocation of families and individuals from all over Australia to the Sunshine Coast has generated hundreds of jobs.

Council and retailers expect the influx to continue for some time, building confidence in retail and service and hospitality industries.
