A major music event that attracts people from Maroochydore and throughout the Sunshine Coast, has received a top honour at the National Live Music Awards, held in Brisbane recently.
Named Queensland Live Event of the Year, the Caloundra Music Festival is a Sunshine Coast Council initiative which also gains support from the Queensland government.
According to Sunshine Coast Councillor Tim Dwyer, the event, which is held on the long weekend in October each year, has attracted attendance in excess of 32,500 and contributed $4.4 million into the local economy.
The festival has also attracted an enviable reputation for its eclectic programme of events, which showcases many music genres and delivers something to be enjoyed by people of all ages.
Councillor Dwyer said the latest accolade was earned by everyone involved, including fans and attendees, its volunteers, sponsors and music industry experts. To advertise big local events such as this, organisers partake in large marketing campaigns which tend to include poster printing and social media promotion.
This year’s big award win is just the latest in a string of successes for the event, which was also named Festival of the Year in the Queensland Music Awards in 2018 and 2019.
Artists to perform at the 14th Caloundra Music Festival in 2020 will be announced in April following the opening of artist applications in February.
