An unusual idea, but one that was well-received to sell out venues at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Fringe World in Perth.
The idea of the evening is that audience members sit and watch and draw the comedians strike a pose on stage, as they tell jokes and one-liners to tickle the funny-bones of the would-be artists.
Each pose lasts for about five minutes. No drawing or artistic experience is required, and often there are more hilarious results if the participants are somewhat lacking in creativity, perspective and artistic skill. Local comedy evenings like this are often advertised by the medium of poster printing to spread the word.
Australian Sean Michaels and South African Ruven Govender are set to host the event. Fringe Feed Australia reviews favourably:
“This show is highly recommended for humans who like to laugh, people who like to draw, and those who wish they could partake in both, preferably simultaneously.”
Life Drawing with a Comedian will take place at The Solbar, 10/12-20 Ocean Street, Maroochydore, QLD on Saturday 11th November. The event starts at 5.30pm, and tickets cost $44.40. Drawing materials will also be provided.
