Cottee Parker appointed to design new city hall

The Sunshine Coast Council City Hall project is a step closer with the recent appointment of its principal architect.

Award-winning practice Cottee Parker, vastly experienced in contemporary urban design, has been enlisted to fulfil the role that will eventually result in a new city hall set on 53 hectares of green field in Maroochydore’s City Centre.

According to Jeanette Allom-Hill, Business Performance Group Executive, the company has contributed to a number of major projects including some with a highly identifiable Logo Design such as Mercedes Autohaus in the Brisbane suburb of Newstead and the locally-based global headquarters of Youi.

The aim of the council is to deliver a contemporary city hall that reflects its vision which is to be the country’s most sustainable region – smart, healthy and creative. Allom-Hill added:

“The Maroochydore City Centre is being transformed into a CBD for the 21st century. This is a region-making project which will drive significant economic, employment and service opportunities for our community through innovation and technological advancement.”

She said the design consultancy team will also include many local suppliers, innovators and leaders in fields such as landscaping and hydraulics.

Director of Cottee Parker Architects, Martin Timms said the company looked forward to working closely with the council on the project to deliver a civic space that will be viewed as a regional and local landmark of which the community could be proud.

The new city hall is expected to open in July 2022.
