Chance to attend National Table Tennis Championships

Maroochydore residents can rejoice in the fact that for the very first time, the Australian National Table Tennis Championships are being brought to their locality in December.

The four categories that will be played at the event include senior, youth, junior and para championships, while integrating any age and both individual and team events. Spectators can expect to see Paralympians and Olympians from Tokyo at the national championships. Local sporting events can gain traction via poster printing.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, team tossing will happen differently for this event. Previously, captains of the various teams went to a toss in person or pre-filled tossing sheets in order to put in their vote for match assignment. However, this year, random assignments will be used to assign teams to matches and crossover finals via an electronic process. These results will be made available along with the draws of the teams.

As all team events will be played simultaneously, each entrant can only participate in a single team event, which means that an athlete participating in a Youth team cannot participate in the Junior, Para, or Open teams. Awards include medals for all championships. Additionally, there is a total sum of $13,250 available as prize money across the Youth, Para, and Senior events. If athletes do not attend the awards ceremony, they will not receive their medal or prize money.

The table tennis championships will be held at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium from the 12th to 19th December at the Caloundra Indoor Stadium, located in Maroochydore’s local government area, the Sunshine Coast.
