Chance for younger generation of artists to showcase their work

Young artists in Mooloolaba have extra time to enter a new art contest on the Sunshine Coast.

The closing date for the New Media category in the Sunshine Coast Art Prize competition has been extended to give entrants more time to think about and complete their pieces.

This is the first time the category has been included in the competition, and it is open to creators aged between 15 and 30 who are in their first five years of working as an artist. Its focus is on using new technologies to create modern artwork, such as videos, sound installations, or digital photographs.

The winner will receive $2,500 in cash, as well as the chance to take part in a four-week residency at The Old Ambulance Station and see an exhibition of their work. From the finalists, several other winners will be chosen to receive prizes, which will include mentoring by local design companies and promotional advice.

Work by the ten chosen finalists will be displayed at an exhibition at Caloundra Regional Gallery next February. Completed works must be submitted ready for display, so entrants submitting photographs might like to enlist the help of a professional Print company to create their final images.

The closing date for entries is now Monday, August 11th. Initial applications must be made online, and entry Forms can be found on the art gallery website.
