Artists are invited to submit expressions of interest for the creation of a street art project as the focus point of a new festival in the Sunshine Coast.
The Horizon Sunshine Coast Festival will feature exhibitions, as well as film and visual art along with music and dance. Open to artists in Maroochydore and other Sunshine Coast areas, $10,000 is offered as the prize for the winning entry.
The Horizon Festival will team up with the Caloundra Film Festival, which will be showing the film Thicker than Water which stars musician Pete Murray in his first theatrical role.
It is planned to locate four artworks in public places in Caloundra. A focal feature artwork measuring 14m x 7m will be painted on the brick wall facing the carpark of the Caloundra Regional Gallery.
Acting Mayor Tim Dwyer said the Horizon Festival was created as a vehicle for the Coast’s talented artists and to allow them to display their work for Sunshine Coast locals, as well as visitors.
The call for submissions is open until July 15, with the successful artist to receive the five-figure sum to finish the project by the start of the festival. It is likely that Flyers and Brochures will advertise the festival.
Events and other activities will take place throughout the region during the festival, which will be held from September 2 – 10.
