Southport to gain two additional police officers

Southport is to receive two new police officers from the latest list of graduates.

Mark Ryan, Police and Corrective Services Minister, announced recently that 78 graduates from the Queensland Police Service (QPS) would take up First Year Constable positions and be deployed all over the state.

In the Gold Coast District, Southport will receive two constables with another based at Coomera police station. The Minister congratulated the new officers who will join their peers in the field to help protect and service communities throughout the state, adding that in light of the current COVID-19 situation it’s vital to make communities feel safer and:

“That is why the latest round of First Year Constables will be expected to uphold the high expectations of the service from the moment they step foot in their new stations.”

Officers within the new intake come from a host of professions and will add a wealth of experience to the force, according to Deputy Commissioner Doug Smith.

While the police graduates may have had their names on Business Cards for other jobs in the past, all have now dedicated the last five months to completing the intensive training required to enter a new career with the police department.

Other locations to receive new officers range from Brisbane's Fortitude Valley Station to Central Queensland's Mackay District, with both to receive four recruits each.
