Southport residents could soon be tuning into the latest in pop-up radio transmission.
According to Joan Warner, chief executive of Commercial Radio Australia, new digital technology has paved the way for multiple pop-up stations to broadcast for a limited time span to highlight or cover a particular artist, festival or event.
The flexible niche programming to be presented as part of the DAB+ digital radio standard, Warner said, would provide listeners on the Gold Coast with the choice and diversity of live, robust and free-to-air digital radio.
In addition to promotional Brochures, Flyers and Signs at major events, the likes of digital radio availability at major sporting events for example would enable 24/7 coverage across multiple stations, Warner explained, adding that stations could also relate to other services such as tourism and ‘what’s on’.
Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney are already listening to DAB+ stations, with the service also being trialed in Darwin and Canberra. Pop-up stations in regional Australia are imminent.
Warner said a three-phase expansion of DAB+ is proposed by the industry, with the first phase expected to begin in 2017 and likely to include the Gold Coast. She said pop-up radio could become the next trend to hit the Gold Coast tourist mecca.
The new ad campaign to launch DAB+ was launched at the National Radio Conference held recently on the Gold Coast.Get a Free Quote for Signs Get a Free Quote for Flyers Get a Free Quote for Brochures
