The $3 million project, jointly funded by the Queensland Government and Moreton Bay Council, will be located at the Harris Avenue Sports Complex and feature a clubhouse, six courts, a pro shop, lighting, car parking and infrastructure, according to Mayor Peter Flannery.
He said the successful tender for the project was received from BBN Constructions, who expect to kick off work in November. He added:
"This is especially thanks to the Queensland Government's $2 million contribution through its Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package for Moreton Bay Region."
The mayor believes the new sports infrastructure will provide a boon to the local area, which is a new and growing community, while also building on the great array of established facilities already available throughout the region.
Major venues such as this have been popular inclusions in brochure printing campaigns promoting the Moreton Bay region.
To guarantee facilities are upgraded to meet the demand of a growing population and to ensure people have an opportunity to stay healthy and fit, Mayor Flannery said the council is providing additional funds to invest in the area's valuable sports infrastructure, with a 40 percent rise to $49m in its contribution as part of the 2020-21 Budget.
Completion of the new tennis hub has been scheduled for July 2021.
