Moreton Bay Mayor, Peter Flannery, said the $3.85 million project was set to fully transform the site spanning 90 hectares into a major environmentally protected recreational and sporting precinct, adding:
“This state-of-the-art facility will support the growth of rugby league in Moreton Bay, complementing the recent $24 million upgrade to Dolphin Stadium and in turn a hopeful NRL licence."
The precinct will include a club house, one half-size and two full-size fields, amenities, irrigation, field lighting, over 150 parking bays and an access point via a new road entering off Henry Road.
The mayor said it is his belief that the region has the potential to become the state's number one sports destination, with the latest project a step towards this outcome.
Councillor Jodie Shipway was pleased to see work begin on the project, which she believes will relieve pressure on other facilities, such as the Kinsellas Sports Complex, which has reached its capacity with upward of 1,500 rugby league and football players kicking off at the venue each week. She said the new precinct would also deliver much needed facilities for locally based North Lake Kangaroos, which is experiencing a massive explosion of membership.
Activities at major sporting precincts such as this are often advertised locally via flyer printing campaigns. Completion date is anticipated to be in early 2022.
