Walking Netball coming to North Lakes

A new way for older people to keep active and make new friends will be coming to North Lakes soon.

As the name suggests, Walking Netball is played at a slower pace and doesn’t require any jumping or running, thus minimising the risk of injury. The netball rules have been modified so that players of all ages, abilities and fitness levels can enjoy taking part in this team sport.

Netball Queensland began a trial of walking netball at Mt Gravatt in July 2018 and were pleased how popular it proved to be, with registrations filling quickly. When starting up a new activity such as this, organisations often use poster printing to generate local interest.

Co-ordinator Rhonda Newton was delighted with the enthusiastic response from the players, including one lady, in her 70s, who scored a goal and said:
“she hadn’t felt this alive in years”

Three more locations on the north side of Brisbane have now been added. The new fixtures will be at:

  • Morayfield Sports and Events Centre, 11am on Tuesday mornings beginning 9th October

  • Northside Indoor Sports and Fitness in North Lakes, 11 am Wednesday mornings from 10th October

  • Southpine Sports Complex in Brendale, 11 am Thursday mornings from 11th October

The cost will be $96 for the eight-week season. For more details contact Rhonda on 0439 706 077 or walkingnetballqueensland@gmail.com.
