The opening of the first Queensland-based Costco store in North Lakes this year has inadvertently boosted business activity across the suburb.
Key centres such as the North Lakes Business Park have welcomed new outlets, including Petbarn, Meatland, Game on Family Fun Centre, and Embrace Life. According to the business development manager for Stockland, Brad Donovan, it is all thanks to the amazing impact of the major Costco store opening.
When the Queensland Costco launched in May, it attracted up to 15,000 shoppers and the flow-on effect for neighbouring businesses is boosting activity and trade in both the town centre precinct and the business park.
A commercial agent has since been appointed to handle the soaring level of inquiries.
When the North Lakes community is completed, it is expected that employment opportunities for residents could exceed 13,000.
Working close to home appears to be gaining support among workers in North Lakes, where latest figures reveal that more than 30 per cent are locally employed.
Attracting new business outlets like Costco provides extra opportunities for established firms in the area, such as retail stores and printing companies.
Commercial agent Martin Clay said that as the business park grew, the number of retail showrooms would also increase. He added that potential tenants within the Park realised the benefits of the location and were willing to pay a little more for such a great vantage point.
