Queensland first at North Lakes for retail giant

Bargain hunters in North Lakes will soon be able to shop at a brand new Costco store.

The latest branch being built in Australia is due to open in the first half of 2014. The warehouse is the first in Queensland, and will generate more than 9,000 job vacancies. The response from the community has been strong according to a Costco spokesperson. Interest has been high in employment opportunities and are confident it will translate into membership take-up.

Costco North Lakes is currently advertising for an audiologist, and optical attendant. While Costco sells many products commonly found in the cupboard of any Australian’s home, it also offers services in non-traditional areas such as Hearing and Eye care. Hearing is their newest department and provides a hearing test service and sells devices.

Costco Wholesale started out in 1983 in Seattle, Washington. The first store opened in Australia, Melbourne 26 years later. Primarily targeting small and medium size business it is also open to individuals to purchase items. Proud of its no frills and expansive shopping experience, the retailer offers a “warehouse” shopping experience. A range of household categories are sold, typically in bulk. Prices are kept low but a 12 month membership fee of $60 is payable.
