One agent, Chris Bowmaker, told local newspaper the North Lakes Times that suitable properties were in short supply. He said:
"If you had a house around $400,000 that you wanted to sell, I could sell it in a week. Supply is the issue at the moment."
It appears that interest in the suburb has been driven by its location and the new retail developments which are set to open during the next two years. Furniture retailer Ikea will open a new store at the Westfield shopping centre in 2014, as part of the expansion plans which also include leisure facilities.
Work has also just begun on a new Costco warehouse, with the members-only store also set to be finished in early 2014 for an April opening. These high profile projects have given North Lakes publicity across Brisbane and further afield.
The new Moreton Bay rail link was also contributing to the rise in the area’s popularity, Mr Bowmaker said.
The high interest in North Lakes and the apparent lack of properties to meet the demand makes this a good time for anyone living in the area looking to sell a house. Flyer printing and postcard printing are some of the marketing techniques employed by real estate agents and these low-cost methods could also be used by homeowners who are looking to make a private sale
