Progress on new North Lakes fire station

The highly anticipated plan to build a local fire station in the North Lakes and Mango Hill area has made significant progress in the last few weeks.

The State Government committed to building a station back in October 2020, after the local progress association had been calling for action since 2008. During April, there were renewed calls for the government to commit funding to purchase a suitable site, as recent events have highlighted the extended times required for vehicles from surrounding stations to attend fires in North Lakes and Mango Hills area. Traffic delays on the Bruce Highway and Anzac Avenue have contributed to slow response times and have once again bought the issue to the fore.

The Mango Hill Progress Association believes the State Government should commit funds in the 2021 budget papers and purchase the 10,000 square metres required as soon as possible. However, rapid development in the area could mean a lack of available sites. Flyer printing can be a cost-effective way to improve awareness within the community of vital issues like this.

In response, a Queensland Fire and Emergency (QFAS) spokesperson said QFAS would acquire a suitable site this year. The State Member for Bancroft, Chris Whiting, has indicated he is happy with the progress.

The Mango Hill Progress Association intends to ask for confirmation of progress from the government.
