Non-state schools in North Lakes, Rothwell and Deception Bay have come out on top with the latest announcement of $2m in spending on infrastructure.
Member for Murrumba Chris Whiting said the non-state school funding for infrastructure comes after in excess of $30m was invested in state school infrastructure in North Lakes, Mango Hill and Deception Bay during the past few years.
He said the extra funding means some faith and independent school students will soon be able to enjoy learning environments that are state-of-the-art.
When announcing the funding boost, Whiting said it was part of a $92m commitment, initiated by the Government, for Queensland’s non-state schools.
This investment, he added, will support jobs in construction across the state, as well as associated positions in printing services and other industries, while also providing opportunities for training new apprentices.
Whiting said it was important for schools to be able to cater for future enrolment growth while also providing top educational opportunities for students.
He said it is a parent’s right to send their children to the school of their choice, whether it be a nonstate school or a state school, and he supports this 100%.
Whatever path they choose, he said, it is important every child has the opportunity to benefit from top-quality classrooms.
The latest funding allocations include The Lakes College, North Lakes ($1.1m), Mueller College, Rothwell ($815,000) and Christ the King, Deception Bay ($70,000).
