After almost two years of development, the $45 million complex known as The Corso at North Lakes, Queensland, is nearing completion.
Already acknowledged by the Green Building Council as the country’s first public building property 5 Star Green Star, The Corso leads the way for being environmentally friendly.
The six-level construction features the latest technology in power and water saving systems. The roof top installation of 550 solar panels will generate 145 kilowatts of power, and innovative technology and rain water harvesting has been installed to help regulate light, natural ventilation, and air conditioning.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said the development would set a new standard for future regional libraries, and commercial and community hubs around the country.
The Corso at North Lakes will host a 2,000 sq m destination library, 1,000 sq m community centre, 4,000 sq m commercial office space incorporating three levels, a Plaza area to include landscaped gardens and a children’s playground, a 300-space car park in the basement, and a secure end-of-trip facility to host 60 bikes.
Jointly funded by the Federal Government and Moreton Bay Regional Council, The Corso enjoys an easily accessible location opposite Westfield shopping complex in the centre of North Lakes.
The Corso’s official opening in September is expected to be widely advertised through local media and the usual council flyer printing campaigns.
