Mayor of Moreton Bay Peter Flannery said the initial works, to cost $375,000, will pave the way towards establishing a new club facility for the North Lakes Blues, which would enable them to play games on home courts.
Mayor Flannery described the first stage of works as just the beginning of a much larger project, and said it will include landscaping, pedestrian footpaths, lighting and more street parking.
The construction of four training courts and an amenities building will follow the completion of the car park, with the entire project scheduled to be finished by 2022, according to the mayor, who added:
“I believe it’s critical that we get this project underway so the club can start planning their 2022 season, and Council can help keep our local economy ticking along."
New sporting facilities such as this are often widely publicised via poster printing campaigns to assist with attracting new players and spectators.
The project, which has attracted Federal Government funding of $1 million, has been welcomed with great excitement by Samantha Malopito, president of North Lakes Blues, as well as local councillor Jodie Shipway, who believes North Lakes is fast becoming an important sporting hub within the Moreton Bay area.
