While the public holiday for the Brisbane Ekka Show has been moved two days from August 12 to 14, Moreton Bay Council has allocated August 10 as the show holiday across the local region.
Mayor Peter Flannery is looking forward to this year's show weekend, which he says will not only provide inspiration for many locals to enjoy local activities, restaurants and attractions but also citysiders seeking to enjoy a fabulous weekend away. He added:
“We’ll certainly be looking at ways to entice more Brisbanites to take a drive to Moreton Bay this August thanks to the new Ekka long weekend.”
He said drive tourism brings with it many benefits for the region and also underpins its tourism economy, worth around $1 billion. Local businesses too are set to benefit with increased demand from visitors for everything from accommodation to dining out.
Brochure printing campaigns to educate both tourists and locals about what the area has to offer are undertaken throughout the year and are of great assistance for those seeking different things to experience.
Occasions, such as the Ekka's long weekend public holiday in Moreton Bay, is the ideal opportunity for people from Queensland's South East to enjoy three days away in one of the country's top tourist destinations.
