Local innovation showcased by newly introduced awards

The inaugural Moreton Bay Innovation Awards have unearthed some unique ideas from throughout the Moreton Bay Council area, including Caboolture and North Lakes.

Impact Building Systems’ entry entitled ‘Solar Combined Heat and Power’ took the top place in the awards for its ability to capture the sun’s heat to produce steam and heat to power a number of mining, industrial, agricultural and municipal processes.

Judging was made difficult due to the high calibre of entries, according to Mayor Allan Sutherland.

He said the region’s outstanding talent for innovation was demonstrated by entries into the awards, and he had no doubt some would put the area on the map in the various industries and perhaps change the world.

As winners of the 2016 Awards, Impact Building Systems will receive $10,000 and an appearance on The Mark Bouris Show.

Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy in Queensland, Leeanne Enoch, said the strength of the state’s innovation sectors was showcased with the awards. She said it was also a key driver of job growth and economic change.

Industry newsletter printing has often identified leading ideas, and the Minister said many of these emanated from a local level and would lead to advances in industry and technology.

Australia’s Assistant Minister for Innovation, Wyatt Roy, agreed. He said local entrepreneurs contributed in a big way to helping the country stand out as a hub of innovation globally.
