The state-of-the-art centre will be largely powered by solar panels and will utilise other green sustainable methods such as rainwater harvesting and translucent roofing materials in order to follow IKEA’s dedication to sustainable operations.
Towards the end of 2016, the company will open its ninth Australian store in North Lakes, Queensland with the new store expected to create over 240 new jobs. The extensive recruitment campaign recently kicked off with online and newspaper adverts, flyer distribution in the local community, Signs and recruitment open days all being utilised.
IKEA stores around the world look to create a strong link with the local community through their Living Local Community Grants, and North Lakes Store Manager Stefano Bizzarri explained:
“Not-for-profit groups and charity organisations which need either IKEA products or a makeover of their premises from our finishing experts, or both, can apply.”
Following applications, three potential local organisations were chosen for the North Lakes grant – Cystic Fibrosis Queensland, Koolkuna/Kalparrin Women’s Refuge and North West Youth Accommodation Services – with voting being carried out online via the IKEA website. Voting closes this Sunday, June 19, and the organisation with the most votes will win a $5,000 grant. Runner-up prizes of IKEA gift cards are available too.
