Hundreds of jobs created as new IKEA and Westfield expansion officially open

The shopping experience has expanded greatly in North Lakes, Queensland recently following the completion of the $170m expansion of Westfield and the new IKEA store.

The official launch of new IKEA superstore and adjoining 17,000 square metre retail mall in Westfield North Lakes was conducted by Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland and Cr. Julie Greer and met with a fanfare of people, Promotional Products, Signs, and balloons.

Mayor Sutherland said that as one of the fastest growing towns in Australia, with the State’s strongest economy, North Lakes was ideal to host the new IKEA store, which is one of only two in Queensland.

He said the opening of Westfield’s link mall, with its 60 new retailers including Cotton On Mega, Rebel Sport, JB Hi-Fi, and Kmart, will also firmly establish North Lakes as a top shopping destination in South East Queensland.

The Mayor reinforced the value of the multimillion-dollar project to the local economy and residents who benefit from the creation of 900 new retail jobs.

Cr. Greer said the introduction of IKEA and Westfield North Lakes’ expansion epitomised the development of North Lakes, which is one of the fastest growing of Australia’s master planned communities.

North Lakes, she said, is set to become the new shopping mecca on Brisbane’s north side, boasting the State’s largest Bunnings, Queensland’s only Costco, Westfield North Lakes 280 retailers, and a new IKEA store.
