While many people visit North Lakes to go to Ikea or the shopping centre, another reason to visit the suburb is to enjoy some pleasant walking.
There are well-made walking and cycling tracks from Lake Eden near Westfield shopping centre and they head towards and around the North Lakes Resort Golf Club. There is also fitness equipment at points along the tracks for people who like a bit of variety in their exercise.
For those who prefer to go a bit more ‘bush’, the North Lakes Environmental Park is an area of protected wetland where Saltwater Creek makes its way towards Hays Inlet. There are well-maintained walking and cycling tracks by the lakes that are great for strolling and dog-walking. To see more of the native wildlife, there are unmarked fire trails and tracks to take visitors into the native bushland. The park provides a corridor for koalas and is also home to possums, kangaroos, turtles and water dragons. Visitors keen on birdlife might see swans, fairy wrens, herons, wedge-tailed eagles and, at certain times migratory birds such as fantailed cuckoos.
The park has several children’s playgrounds and picnic areas, some with electric barbecues, making it a great place for friends and families to get together.
Often, brochure printing can be helpful in letting people know about the locations on their doorsteps.
